Happy Anniversary, Lorella – Anna Loves You!!

What do you get when you mix 2 amazing Mid-West chefs with a local Ashland chef who just happens to be a 2-time winner of the Ashland Culinary Festival Chef’s Showdown?

You get triple-digit awesomeness!

Just one year ago, Petra Jung and Tony Travanty, hailing from Wisconsin and Minnesota on a quest to find a longer growing season in which to hone their farm-to-table culinary chops, set up shop at 145 East Main Street, a back-of-the-building venue once occupied by the Pita Pit, enlisting the additional genius of Josh Dorcak, a local icon who has made his mark on Ashland with his work at Amuse and Playwright.

Asked to describe what type of restaurant Lorella is, we might pontificate about comforting Northern Italian with understated Asian influences finished with divine French pastries – but what we really want to tell you is this: Lorella is the real deal, a bona fide top table in Ashland, and if their plates were being served in San Francisco, New York, Seattle or Portland the prices would be double.

There’s so damned much talent in this kitchen it sparkles out into the streets.

Whether you’ve found Lorella on your own or have yet to into discover Ashland’s newest diamond, here are a few extra reasons to try it right now:

* 1 year anniversary. Lorella has found their stride and has taken their rightful place among Ashland’s culinary elite.

* New Happy Hour and a Half 4-5:30. Some of the more interesting small plates and drinks in town, a good way to sample their fare at reduced prices.

* New Brunch Service. Mimosas, of course, and an inventive, deeply comforting menu.

* This year’s harvest is in full swing. Every week some new ingredient takes centre stage, always at it’s very peak.

Just short of a year ago Anna fell head over heels for Lorella – guided by the infamous palate of Drew Gibbs (hey, if ‘Alchemy’s’ owner raves, it’s gotta be good) - and her love affair continues, from those first divine bites of egg yolk agnolotti, gorgeous marinated beet salad, and ridiculously perfect peach galette, to last week’s Happy Hour (and a half) and this weekend’s Hash and Bennie Brunch, we’ll always make an excuse for popping in every chance to see what new treasures Lorella has on offer.
