Sammich Ashland - the latest jewel in Ashland's culinary crown - is our newest 'best kept secret'. Hidden, almost literally, in a nondescript storefront (behind Mihama, in the same parking lot as State Farm Insurance), Ashland's foodies are finding them anyway.
Perhaps they're following their noses: Sammich roasts and smokes all of their own meats onsite, with the house-cured pastrami by far being the most popular item on the menu; it sells out every single day.
We love the attention to detail: the voluptuous tuna salad sammich, with slices of soft, ripe avocado, would squish out from between slices of ordinary bread - but not so with the pillowy rich brioche-like bun it's served on. The filling stays put. Or the dainty cup of housemade tomato soup that comes alongside your perfectly pressed, crunchy grilled cheezer to dip it into.
And in a town brimming with delicious places to eat, you know you can't go wrong dining where the city's other top chefs eat on their day off: recent sightings have included the kitchen staff from both Larks and Smithfields ... ;-)
