World of Wine Festival

In it’s eighth year, Southern Oregon’s ‘World of Wine Festival’ will take

place on Saturday, August 28th from 5-9 p.m. at Del Rio Vineyards in Gold Hill. Of all the wine tasting events Southern Oregon has to offer, WOW should definitely go on your ‘can’t miss’ list.

Over forty wineries will be represented, including some our personal favourites like Abecela (LOVE their Tempranillo!), Troon (viva Druid’s Fluid!), Weisingers (Ashland’s own!), RoxyAnn (can you say, “Claret”?), and

Quady North (small lot, minimally handled Applegate Syrah) – all pouring their best, to pair with a delicious array of gourmet foods prepared by local artisan producers and renowned restaurants like Larks (yes!), Rising Sun Farms (we’re addicted to their tortas!), The Garden at the McCully House in J-Ville, and those Bleu Cheese gods over at the Rogue Creamery.

WOW is a truly Local event, showcasing the outstanding wines

made exclusively with Southern Oregon grapes and the creativity

of regional winemakers.

Highly qualified judges have been invited to come taste and evaluate

submitted wines using world-class standards. The medalists from the professionally judged competition will be announced prior to the

festivities, just in time to taste at the event!

750 people – from 13 different states and three countries – attended WOW

last year. Forty-eight wineries participated, pouring more than 120 different wines. This year the Festival has added a game of chance, a silent auction,

and a golf tournament.

New also this year is the introduction of an internship program, whose

winner was chosen via YouTube submissions. How fun is that? The winner selected was Liz Jones, who has now earned the opportunity to learn

from (and taste alongside) some of the best palates in the industry.
