A weekend-long stroll through the galleries and shops of Downtown and
the Railroad District with a wine glass in one hand and a bite-size
morsel of yumminess in the other, the Taste of Ashland is an annual
salute to Spring and all things delicious in Ashland, Oregon.
One restaurant and one winery are paired at each art venue, offering you a
chance to sip and nibble your way through an extensive portable tasting
menu. And with all that walking between bites you can pretend
you're burning off all the calories!
Prepare to be surprised and delighted: I still remember the almost
life-altering experience of biting into a tiny square of seared ahi on
a crunchy won-ton cracker drizzled with wasabi creme ... as well as
the, umm, interesting curiosity of being served a deep-fried banana
pastry with a side of grilled asparagus spears. :-p
The Taste happens this year on April 28th and 29th. Something in the neighborhood of $55 gets you passage for both days, but you can go a single day for less and, frankly, that's what most people do. Fork over your cash at the kiosk on the Plaza and be handed a glass and a program telling you where to go (there's a map inside outlining a roughly circuitous route). It's really a fantastic way to get to know the town!
